Pushing through procrastination and laziness can be challenging, but with the right strategies, you can overcome these obstacles and regain the YOU power!
Here are some tips that I try to follow to stay on track:
Set Manageable Goals: Break down your tasks into smaller, more manageable goals. This can help prevent feelings of overwhelm and make it easier to get started.
Focus on Your “Why”: Remind yourself of the reasons why you need to complete the task. Focusing on the long-term benefits can help you stay motivated.
Eliminate Distractions: Identify and remove any distractions that might be preventing you from focusing on your tasks. This could include turning off notifications, finding a quiet workspace, or setting specific times for breaks. A big distraction for me is my cellphone. When I start to feel "bored" of the task, I turn to scrolling through social media.
Create a Routine: Establishing a daily routine can help you build good habits and stay on track. Consistency is key to overcoming procrastination. One thing that has helped me is setting an alarm to start my days at 5AM. I will say, some days are extremely difficult to get out of bed.
Use Positive Self-Talk: Replace negative thoughts with positive ones. Instead of thinking, “I can’t do this,” tell yourself, "I can do this, and I will give it my best effort.”
Reward Yourself: Give yourself small rewards for completing tasks. This can help reinforce positive behavior and make the process more enjoyable. (Shopping and spending money is always a nice reward.)
Take Care of Your Health: Ensure you’re getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, and exercising regularly. A healthy body can lead to a more focused and motivated mind. I know with my busy schedule, it is always very easy to head to Burger King and order a #3 Impossible Whopper with only mustard and pickle. BUT, then I notice my energy start to deplete and I just want to lay on the couch.
Seek Support: Don’t be afraid to ask for help or seek support from friends, family, or professionals. Sometimes, talking to someone can provide the encouragement you need to push through. I always try to get some motivation from speaking with my friends or family. When I feel that “I don't want to attitude.” I call them to get through the "lazy" speed bump and it works! (Most of the time.)
Remember, it’s normal to feel stuck at times, but creating a plan that works for you can help you overcome procrastination and laziness. Keep pushing forward, and you’ll find yourself making progress. Never give up! Remember it is okay to have lazy days, but it is so easy to turn a lazy day into a lazy week.
Never beat yourself down if you fall off track, just try again! I am currently writing this blog post versus cleaning my kitchen...
