Traveling for the Holidays with Pets: A Whirlwind Adventure

Greetings from the road!

This holiday season, we're embarking on an exciting journey from Nebraska to Arkansas to celebrate Thanksgiving with my husband's family. Of course, it wouldn’t be a family trip without our beloved pets: our dogs Augie and Oreo, and our cats Hank and Izzy.

As I write this blog post, nestled comfortably (well, sort of) in the passenger seat, I can't help but marvel at the chaos playing out in the back seats. Every five minutes, Hank expresses his displeasure with a dramatic hiss because Augie won't sit still. Augie, always up for a game, responds with enthusiastic barks. Meanwhile, Izzy sees an opportunity for adventure and attempts to make her way into the front seat. The only calm one amidst this frenzy is our beloved Oreo, sitting in her travel bed and watching the drama unfold with the air of a queen observing her siblings.

This trip, we made the wise decision to invest in one of those pet mats that cover your seats and convert the leg room into a section as well, thanks to the underneath backing. It’s been a game-changer, allowing our pets to be comfortable in the back seat where we can keep an eye on them. Despite the constant commotion, it’s been an interesting ride so far with six more hours to go!

What's keeping me motivated through this joyful chaos? The promise of the delicious vegan Thanksgiving dishes my mother-in-law and I will be whipping up. I have to say, I absolutely LOVE mashed potatoes, and I can already taste them as I dream of the feast ahead.

What’s your favorite holiday dish?

Until next time, happy travels and happy holidays!
